F. W. Webb Company takes technology and distribution seriously. To deliver cost reductions and high service
levels, technology is the key. Customers access information utilizing these system solutions.
F. W. Webb Company invests in technology to assure its leadership position in providing the function of distribution.
EDI EDI is not the Future; it is Now!
Electronic Commerce is not a new term to the F. W. Webb Company. We've been involved with EDI for 10+ years. We serve dozens of customers via hundreds of daily transactions. Document sets include ANSI X12
versions of 850's, 855's, 860's, 865's, 810's, 832's, 856's, 824's, and 997's. This translates to PO's, PO
Acknowledgments, PO Changes, PO Change Acknowledgments, Invoices, Product Pricing, Advanced Ship Notices, Applications Advice, and Functional Acknowledgments. These documents are transferred using a
public VAN (Value Added Network).
F. W. Webb Company has the ability to tie these documents into our legacy distribution software, allowing us to serve customers throughout New England and New York with a
single EDI interface. We accommodate various ANSI versions, customer's part numbers, multiple points of delivery, etc., automatically integrated with our sales order entry and inventory control systems.
When customers do not have the means or access to standardized EDI transactions, F. W. Webb Company
can serve them by building customized computer interfaces. These often require Webb to develop electronic filters to ensure we replenish exactly what the customer wants, even when they cannot control the filters
themselves. We have also done considerable work with scripts to help automate these processes with customers.
INTERNET Webb is on the Web!
The Internet is growing exponentially, far exceeding anyone's wildest dreams. It's use for research and
disseminating information is legendary, and expanding. Electronic commerce is growing in popularity and impact.
F. W. Webb Company has a keen interest in both the information aspect and e-commerce aspects of the Internet. Our web page (www.fwwebb.com) provides more information and compliments our sales efforts. Location
and key contact information is available, as well as product line information. We have added telnet access to WebbConnect and plan to offer the traditional browser interface for ordering. We have integrated our
local area network access to the Internet for our salespeople and have established our own active Intranet.
At Webb the FUTURE IS NOW!
WEBBCONNECT Our Computer Never Sleeps! The Service Never Stops! WebbConnect is a series of programs designed to allow customers of F. W. Webb Company to have access
to valuable information on our computer. A customer can access information on the products we have in stock
and where they are located. Pricing is available for all products. Bids, orders, and invoices can be viewed in
detail. The customer can convert a bid to an order. HVAC equipment sizing can be calculated showing heat loss, heat gain. WebbConnect customers have full access to our e-mail system and internet home page.
There are several advantages to using WebbConnect:
- Places orders directly into the computer, any time of the day or night.
- Allows F. W. Webb Company salespeople a link to key manufacturers through e-mail.
- Minimizes mistakes during order taking.
- Orders can be placed ahead of time, so that materials are ready for pickup when then customer walks through the door.
Basically, it puts efficiency into the system
Since 1994, the number of WebbConnect customers has grown ten fold. This growth resulted from Webb
learning better ways to serve our customers electronically and programming better features into the software.
Now, WebbConnect is available via the Internet. Customers, with dedicated Internet access can be connected directly to F.W. Webb Company.
BARCODING Cost Savings, Fewer Mistakes, Better Customer Service
Bar coding technology has been part of F. W. Webb Company systems for 15+ years. That's a strong
statement in the distribution industry! We've done this in the past for the same reasons we do it today: speed, ease of use, and accuracy.
Bar code entry is faster than typing. Bar code entry is easy, especially with
our radio frequency portable equipment. Bar code entry is accurate, eliminating typing, selecting, and stocking errors.
In addition to the ease of bar code entry, significant benefits come from integration into existing software. For instance, when we place an item on
the shelf in our distribution center, every Webb branch (and every WebbConnect customer) can see , in real-time, product availability and
location. Real-time means immediate stock replenishment by an order processor at our distribution center. The computer "knows" which items
have been selected, which ones are yet to be selected, and which selection order is most efficient. There is no confusion, no duplication; and, most important, it is accurate.
VMI
Another example of Webb using technology to assist customers is VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory). Bar Code readers are used to obtain
replenishment information for products at a customers' warehouse or vehicle. This data is transferred directly, usually via modem, to F. W.
Webb's computer, where multiple orders are quickly developed and the replenishment process begins. Again the goal is speed, ease of use, and accuracy. The result is customer satisfaction.
