Plans unveiled for new 420,000 sq.ft. Central Distribution Center...

John Pope, owner of the F.W. Webb Company of Burlington, Massachusetts has announced plans to build a new 420,000 sq.ft "state of the art" distribution center on a 42 acre site in Amherst, New Hampshire.

Construction is expected to start in June 2003, and the plan is to be operational by the spring of 2004. The central warehouse will consist of 250,000 sq.ft. of high bay pallet rack storage, 140,000 sq.ft. of parts storage and 24 loading docks for shipping and receiving. In addition, the Central Distribution Center will house 30,000 sq. ft. of office space, including the Roger W. Pope Training Center.

F. W. Webb worked with Thompkins Associates of Raleigh, North Carolina for the warehouse design. ProCon Construction of Manchester, New Hampshire is the design-build contractor. Currently this is the largest industrial building under construction in the State of New Hampshire.

All transactions for shipping and receiving will be paperless, utilizing bar coding to improve efficiency. Purchasing will be done utilizing EDI with all vendors, and most major vendors will be utilizing VMI for controlling inventory requirements.
