What is the ADA code for grab bars?

ADA requires grab bars in all accessible toilet stalls. All grab bars must be installed horizontally 33 to 36 inches above the finished floor:

  • A grab bar on the sidewall must be at least 42 inches long
  • The sidewall grab bar must be located no more than 12 inches from the rear wall and extend 54 inches outward.
  • The grab bar on the rear wall behind the toilet must measure at least 36-inches long.
