From Fittings to Full-Scale Ductwork: F.W. Webb’s Sheet Metal Fabrication Shop Has Your HVAC Projects Covered

Sheet Metal Fabrication Shop Has Your HVAC Projects Covered

Here's a familiar scenario for a contractor like you: It’s the middle of winter, you're in a customer's basement, and you need to replace a furnace. The challenge? The new unit is completely different from the one you're replacing. It must connect with the existing ductwork. What do you do?

F.W. Webb's Sheet Metal Fabrication shop in Haverhill, MA, handles this scenario regularly. In these cases, our team fabricates a custom piece to bridge the gap seamlessly.

"These are usually really quick jobs," says Rob Stone, Sheet Metal Sales Manager and shop manager. "You can come to the counter, and we’ll help you figure out what you need."

For projects like this, our fabrication shop combines personalized support with the full-service approach we offer through our capabilities as a leading distributor of HVAC products.

How It Works

In addition to taking requests at the counter, our shop also takes orders via phone or email, though many contractors prefer email. At your job site, write a stock list, take some photos, and email everything to [email protected]. Our team will review the list and follow up if adjustments are needed.

When you need trunk duct fabrication, your order will go to our coil line operator, who uses the Iowa Precision Full Coil Line to shape sheets into five-foot lengths.

We also use a spiral pipe machine to fabricate 10-foot sections. You can find 4” to 24” diameter pipe in stock, while 26” to 38” diameter pipe is available via special order.

When you need fittings, your request will go to our computer numerical control (CNC) programmer, who generates instructions for the plasma machine. Inside the shop, the machine cuts round and square fittings, transitions, elbows, offsets, and ductwork shorter than five feet.

Flexible Solutions

Whether you need a single fitting or full ductwork for an entire commercial installation, our team delivers with speed and precision.

"We'll do fabrication for anything from a one-story ranch house to a 20-story building," Rob says.

Recently, our shop contributed duct and fittings to a large commercial project involving several high-rise buildings at Assembly Row in Somerville, MA.

Larger jobs like this require more time, but you can still expect a fast turnaround, keeping your work on schedule.

Expert Guidance

For jobs ranging from emergency installations to extensive commercial projects, our team will guide you through each step of the process.

"You might say: 'I have a duct here, and it needs to go there. It also needs to change size and redirect here.' We can help you determine the optimal connection," Rob says.

In many cases, you don't need to take a standard item and modify it at the jobsite. We can often make it for you in one piece.

To point you in the right direction, Rob brings more than 30 years of experience to the shop, working every day with contractors just like you.

"I've been in the industry for so long that I feel it's my responsibility to help you—especially if you're new to our work—understand our process and how it can benefit your business," Rob says. "My goal is to serve as a resource, both in supporting your work and in providing knowledge. Not only do I want to help you complete your projects, but I also want to keep my trade going, so I share my knowledge with the next generation of fellow tradespeople."
